The youth of James Town, a suburb of Accra will embark on a demonstration Friday against what they term as “gargantuan homosexuality” which they say is rampant in the community.
A birthday party over the weekend turned bloody when angry youth stormed the event at night and assaulted all on sight because the celebrant and well-wishers were said to be homosexuals.
Victims of the attack who lodged a complaint with a human rights group in Accra, say they are living in fear. The attack is believed to have been masterminded by a gang in the area.
Sharing their rage at the activities of the gays, a leading member of the group said the demonstration Friday, will be a peaceful one and called on youths from other communities where such practices are rampant to fight against such evil deeds.
“We must stand against homosexuality, we the youth can’t see this happening during our time. No chief or no elderly person is fueling this agenda” adding that “we are not expelling them from our community, but we want them to stop and we will force them to stop”.
Meanwhile the gays and lesbians in the constituency are calling on the government to protect them while the Domestic Violence and Victims Support Unit of the Ghana Police Service (DOVVSU) investigates the case.
