University teachers are likely to suspend their strike later in the day following what they describe as government’s positive response to address their concerns. Their one week old strike was in protest of delays in the payment of their ten months salary arrears. President of the University Teachers Association (UTAG), Dr. Anthony Simons told Joy News his checks revealed government had made progress as far as their demands are concerned and was convinced the monies would soon hit their accounts. He was optimistic of a positive response at the Association’s emergency National Executive Council meeting later today. “I’m hoping that we may suspend [the strike]... hoping that by next week the money will hit our accounts,” Dr Simons stated. Meanwhile, students at the various public universities have been mounting pressure on both government and university authorities to quickly resolve the impasse to reduce the negative impact on their academic work.
