Pharmacists across the country are threatening another strike if they are not migrated onto the Single Spine Salary Structure by March 31.They have rejected a 58 per cent market premium proposed by the Fair Wages and Salary Commission and are demanding 100 per cent of their existing salaries. The group embarked on a strike late last year and only returned to work after the Labour Commission intervened.President of the Government and Hospital Pharmacists Association (GHOSPA), Stephen Corquaye, told Joy News’ Dzifa Bampoh their patience has run out and will declare a nationwide strike if their grievances are not addressed.According to him, they have been engaging the FWSC since September 2011 but nothing concrete has come out of it.He said the Labour Commission which is the final arbiter on issues like this failed to make a specific ruling and only referred them to a non-existent Grievance Review Committee which was yet to be formed.
Corquaye stated that they were promised that the issue would be resolved on or before January 31, but nothing happened. He said they have set a new deadline of 31 March, hoping government and its allied institutions will resolve the matter or they will declare a nationwide strike. The National Coordinator of the Labour Rights Institute, Mohammed Affum urged the parties to quickly resolve the matter before the deadline. He said as an essential service, the right to strike has been taken away from them and hoped stakeholders will act expeditiously to resolve their grievances before the 31st March, 2012 deadline.
