A 32-year-old mason is in the grips of the police at Twifo Praso in the Central region for allegedly murdering his girlfriend at Praso Old Town.
Kwasi Mintah reportedly killed mother of three, Amma Gyimah in a quarrel after the girlfriend had accused him of having extra-marital affairs.
Police say one of the deceased’s children found the mother unconscious with a deep cut in the head.
She was rushed to the Twifo-Praso District Hospital where she died the next day.
Mintah and his late girlfriend who had lived together for four years without an issue are said to have engaged in frequent quarrels.
According to the police, sometime last week the deceased accused the suspect of going after another woman, resulting in a quarrel.
Neighbors have told police Mintah threatened to kill his girlfriend, but following an amicable settlement, the woman then agreed to spend the night with the man only for a son of Gyimah to discover the mother unconscious the next morning.
Twifo Praso District Police Commander, DSP Nana Ofori told Nhyira News the suspect faces a provisional charge of murder.
“We moved to the scene and saw the woman unconscious, lying in a pool of blood... actually he (Mintah) said he fought with the woman but did not sleep in the house with her and the suspect is in our custody”.
According to DSP Ofori, police will find it difficult to believe the assault on the deceased was a mild one, given what they saw.
“She had a deep cut in the scalp while lying in pool of blood.... He said they fought but it is not a mere assault. It is now murder”, he explained.
A Magistrate’s Court has since remanded Mintah into prison custody to re-appear on April 13, while, Ama’s body awaits autopsy at the Twifo Praso District Hospital.
