Bayern Munich president Uli Hoeness has blasted Mesut Ozil after the midfielder's shock decision to retire from international football.
Ozil said on Sunday he was quitting the German national football team, citing "racism" in the criticism of him in the side's World Cup debacle.
"It is with a heavy heart and after much consideration that because of recent events, I will no longer be playing for Germany at international level whilst I have this feeling of racism and disrespect," he tweeted.
Hoeness though has come out in a scathing attack on the 29-year-old citing his poor form for the criticism he has been receiving.
"He has been playing crap for years," Hoeness told German publication, Bild. "He last won a tackle before the 2014 World Cup.
"All he is doing on the field is playing sideways passes. And now he hides himself and his awful form behind this photo.
"Whenever we [Bayern] played against Arsenal we always targeted him because we knew he was the weak point.
"No-one questioned that he was playing crap at the World Cup. His 35 million follower boys, who of course do not exist in the real world, believed that he has played excellently."
Team boss Oliver Bierhoff suggested after the debacle that Germany should have considered dropping Ozil after his failure to explain himself over the Erdogan picture.
Former captain Lothar Matthaeus also accused Ozil of no longer looking comfortable in the Germany shirt.
