The Western Regional Police Command has seized 92 bails of dry leaves suspected to be Indian hemp.
Police reports indicate that a truck with registration number AS 5138-11 with five people on board was stopped at the Apremdo barrier in Takoradi on October 23, for a normal routine inspection.
The passengers for fear of being intercepted took to their heels but three of them were caught by the police.
Public Relations Officer of the Western region command DSP Olivia Adiku disclosed that the arrest was successful with the help of some civilians.
Speaking on Joy News, she revealed, “samples of the dry leaves have been taken to the crime lab in Accra to do a test and find out exactly what substance the dry leaves are.”
“The substance was compressed into slabs and we found that there are about 7150 slabs of the substance in the bail,” DSP Adiku said.
She added that the three suspects in police custody Kwaku Quansah, Francis Ackah and Ali Amadu will be put before the court on October 26.
DSP Adiku said information is being gathered to arrest the other two suspects identified as Taller and Kojo.
