The National Security Minister-designate Kan Dapaah has disclosed that a Commander ordered the military into the Parliamentary Chamber on the eve of swearing-in of the 8th Parliament.
He told Parliament's Appointment Committee during his vetting that the commander had said things were getting out of hand in the Chamber between the two sides of the House.
Therefore, the Commander asked the military to go into the House and restore order for Parliamentary proceedings to continue, Mr Dapaah told the Committee, Wednesday.

“When I saw it I was also alarmed...I posed the question do you think your presence there was going to frighten the members of Parliament? No. Were you going to arrest them? No, you couldn't have arrested anybody there,” he said.
Mr Kan Dapaah stated that he was relieved no harm was done to any legislator after the military invasion.
On January 7, security personnel stormed Parliament following chaos between the New Patriotic Party (NPP) and National Democratic Congress (NDC) MPs over the election of a Speaker.
The military and police officers who were heavily armed and clad in full regalia marched unto the floor of the Parliament to restore calm after MPs disrupted the electoral process of a new Speaker.
The soldiers left the House 10 minutes after storming the House.
Meanwhile, Kan Dapaah told the Committee the Chief of Defense Staff (CDS) was asked to launch an investigation into the matter.
He stated that the CDS will take the appropriate action “if they also come to the conclusion that what was done was totally unprofessional.”
Kan Dapaah assured the Committee that there will not be a repeat of such actions in the future.
