Deputy Education Minister, Samuel Okudzeto Ablakwa has won the North Tongu parliamentary primary on the ticket of the governing National Democratic Congress.

He polled 9855 votes, representing 84.45 percent of the total votes cast to win the election.

The other contender, Charles Hodogbe polled 778 votes representing 6.67 percent. Bennet Kobla Afle also polled 849 votes representing 7.28 percent of the total votes cast.

Joy News’ Ivy Setordzi was in the constituency and reports that although the election was peaceful some of the electorates complained about the timing of the election.

They said the timing was wrong because some churches have organised conventions and as such a lot of members were out of town and could not vote.

Some polling officers expressed disappointment at the number of voters turning up to cast their ballot.

Other voters stated that controversies surrounding the election had reduced the hype that characterised the primaries.

Sunday’s elections followed the dismissal of a suit filed by disqualified aspirant Christopher Eleblu who sought to put an injunction on it.

But an Accra High Court on Tuesday dismissed the case paving the way for the primaries to be held on Sunday December 20.
