The two citizens who brought a case before the Supreme Court on the voter's register are doing the bidding of the New Patriotic Party, a Deputy Communications Minister has said.

Felix Kwakye Ofosu said the former Youth Organiser of the PNC, Abu Ramadan who brought the case 'is a known political operative and you can deduce exactly what he represents based on his comments, his posturing and what he does.'

He believes that although Abu Ramadan is not a member of the NPP, he is helping the Let My Vote Count Alliance (LMVC) which he describes as an 'offshoot' of the NPP to do the party's desire.

He made these comments on MultiTV/ Joy FM's news analysis programme, Newsfile on Saturday.

Abu Ramadan and Evans Nimako sued the Electoral Commission (EC) over the credibility of the current Voters' register.

Prior to the suit, the New Patriotic party and some pressure groups including Let My Vote Count Alliance of which Abu Ramadan is a member had called for a new voters' register ahead of the 2016 elections, insisting that the current is so fundamentally flawed it cannot be relied on for reasonably credible elections. The EC dismissed all the claims.

The Supreme Court on May 5, ordered the Electoral Commission to delete from the electoral roll, names of persons who have not established qualification to be on it.

The plaintiffs of the case prayed the apex court for clarification after several weeks of conflicting interpretations of the judgement on the matter.

On Thursday, June 23, a panel of judges chaired by Chief Justice Georgina Wood, upbraided the Commission and ordered it to produce a comprehensive list of the NHIS carders on the electoral roll by June 29.

The court also ordered the Commission to produce a detailed plan on how it will delete those names from the roll and have them reregistered properly.

Although the capability of the Commission has been doubted by the LMVC, the Commission has indicated that it is preparing to meet the deadline given by the Supreme Court to produce the list.

It baffles Mr Kwakye-Ofosu that the NPP has stated on several occasions that there are names of persons who registered with NHIS cards on the electoral roll but doubts the EC's ability to produce a credible list of these names. 

He said 'Anyone who would challenge the credibility of the list the EC will furnish the Supreme Court with must also provide evidence to support their claim,' the Deputy Communications Minister has insisted.

NPP Communications Director, Nana Akomea rubbished claims by Mr Kwakye-Ofosu that the NPP has said the EC cannot produce a comprehensive list of the NHIS carders on the voters' register.

He added that based on an allegation by the Deputy Communications Minister that Abu Ramadan is serving the interest of the NPP, he could also suggest that the EC is serving the interest of the NDC "because, at every stage in this process, the EC's take on matters agrees with the NDC's take."
