Academic City University has held a matriculation ceremony to welcome its newest group of students, marking the start of an exciting academic journey to nurture the next generation of African innovators and leaders.
The event saw the enrollment of approximately 221 students, including both undergraduates and postgraduates from 15 African countries, confirming Academic City’s commitment to fostering a diverse and inclusive learning environment.

A total of seven students were awarded full presidential scholarships worth $40,000 each.
The scholarship covers all four years of tuition, housing, meals, a laptop, a monthly stipend, and transportation for students from outside Accra.

Speaking at the ceremony, Prof. Fred McBagonluri, President of Academic City, highlighted the university’s philosophy of holistic education, emphasizing that learning extends beyond the classroom.

“This campus is more than just a university; it is a home away from home. Our vibrant community encourages collaboration, innovation, and leadership, equipping students with the skills to become transformational leaders on the continent,” he stated.
Touching on the university’s Presidential Charter, Prof. McBagonluri remarked, “We are happy to become one of the youngest universities in Ghana to attain such status within just seven years. This is proof of our commitment to excellence and innovation.

"It allows us to introduce cutting-edge programs that meet global industry standards and advance our mission of producing Africa’s next generation of innovators, entrepreneurs, and leaders,” Prof. McBagonluri added.
As part of its expansion, Academic City has introduced MSc programmes in Data Science and Analytics and Cybersecurity, positioning itself at the forefront of technological education.

Additionally, a strategic partnership with Northern Kentucky University in the USA will see the introduction of a STEM-focused MBA, creating more opportunities for students seeking advanced studies in high-demand fields.
The matriculation ceremony was also a landmark moment for Academic City’s first cohort of graduate students pursuing MSc degrees in Cybersecurity and Data Science and Analytics.

Prof. McBagonluri encouraged the newly admitted students to embrace the journey ahead, saying, “This is your time to shine. The road ahead will be challenging but also rewarding.
"Take full advantage of this opportunity to explore, innovate, and turn your ideas into solutions that impact the world,” he advised.

Ms. Remi Brainy Cole, Speaker for the Class of 2028, expressed excitement on behalf of her peers about joining the Academic City community and being pioneers of the university’s new status.
She acknowledged the responsibility that comes with this role and urged her classmates to uphold the university’s integrity, leaving behind a positive legacy that will inspire future generations of Academic City students
