THE Accra Catholic Archdiocesan Children’s Service has held a Nine Lessons and Carols at the Holy Spirit Cathedral, Adabraka in Accra.
Mrs. Mary Anane-Mensah, president of the group, in an address called on Christians to extend a hand of love to the less privileged in society to enable them to feel that they are needed.
"We should show our love not only to members of our families, but to people in our communities and society at large and find ways of making life better for them," she said.
Mrs Anane-Mensah said "If those who profess to be Christians live according to the dictates of their Christian responsibility, which enjoins them to show love through sharing, and giving as demonstrated by the wise men in the Bible, then they will go a long way to impact positively on society."
She said that there are a lot of poor people in society who have been neglected by friends and family and have become frustrated, and added that it is time the meaning of Christmas is clearly understood by Christians and others who join in the festivities so that they learn to reach out to those who need help most, rather than the rich giving to the rich because of something they want in return.
Mrs Anane-Mensah said this explains why the children’s services in the various parishes had been brought together over the past 10 years to inculcate in them the spirit of Christmas- the season of love and joy.
She said the occasion offers the children the opportunity to come together at a time like this and enjoy their childhood.
Mrs. Anane-Mensah said the children had for the past three years visited the Missionary Sisters of Charity at Ashiaman, and donated various items and cash.
