Leaders of aggrieved fishermen from the Greater Accra region will meet President Mills this morning.
Hundreds of the fishermen demonstrated in Accra last week to protest the non-enforcement of the ban on light fishing and pair-trawling.
They however clashed with the police as they insisted on going to the Osu Castle to present their petition to President Mills himself.
Executive Secretary of the Ghana National Canoe Fishermen Association, Nii Abeo Kyerekuandah told Joy News they are hopeful the President will act on their grievances.
“We are hoping that the president being a listening president will favourably consider the points we raised and perhaps find a way of sorting things out.”
Mr Kyerekuandah said despite the existence of laws banning light fishing and pair-trawling, interference from some quarters had made the enforcement of those laws problematic.
