The Ashanti Regional Security Council says it is exploring dialogue to address the long standing feud between nomadic herdsmen and indigenes of Agogo.

Regional Minister, Alexander Ackon, tells Luv FM invitations have already been extended to the leadership of the Agogo Youth Association, MP for the area and traditional authorities.

Traditional authorities have given all cattle owners up to the end of this month to evacuate their animals.

The order comes in the wake of on-going enforcement of a Kumasi High Court order authorizing the Regional Security Council to flush out the nomadic herdsmen.

The Asante Akyem North District Security Committee is worried the March deadline of the Traditional Council could cause chaos.

District Chief Executive and DISEC Chairman, Paul Kingsley Averu, says he cannot guarantee peace in the area if the ultimatum by the chiefs is carried through.

He spoke to Nhyira FM on the sidelines of a meeting with his counterparts of Sekyere Afram Plains District at Drobonso.

“I can talk of peace in Drobonso and Drobonso sharing border with Agogo the problem area there. I am convinced there would be peace there but the Agogo citizens who sit in Agogo and have declared fiat that no cattle in Agogo area, I cannot say there would be peace or there would not be peace”. Mr. Averu emphasized.

But speaking on Burning Issues on Luv FM Friday morning, Regional Minister, Alexander Ackon told host, David Akuetteh, dialogue is the way to go for peaceful resolution of the problem.

“What we’ve done is that it will get them involved. Yesterday Regional Security Council asked DISEC of Agogo and Drobonso to meet with the farming community and Fulani herdsmen. Therefore based on this outcome, Regional Security is going to make a next step, to involve all in the resolution. They are going to be part of the solution”

To this end, he said invitation will be extended to the Member of Parliament of the area, Agogo Youth Association and traditional authorities.

Meanwhile, the joint-DISEC meeting of Sekyere Afram Plains and Asante Akyem North Districts has adopted some measures to prevent a spill-over of nomadic herdsmen from Agogo into neighboring Drobonso.

These include a ban on night movement of cattle, extension of Operation Cowleg operations into the district while registering all existing cattle in the cattle.
