Ashanti Regional Youth Wing of the Ahmadiyya Muslim Mission has organized a voluntary blood donation campaign in aid of health facilities in the region.
A total of 29 pints of blood was donated during the exercise held at the Kumasi South Hospital.
This comes amid intermittent blood shortage at the facilities and pleas by health providers for people to volunteer blood to save lives.
Mr. Michael Adarkwa, a Bio-Medical Scientist, at the Kumasi South Hospital, underlined the need for people to regularly donate blood to assure the facilities of adequate stocks to attend to emergencies.
He praised the Muslim youth for the gesture and encouraged them to do it from time to time.
The Kumasi South facility has installed a refrigerator that has a capacity to hold 600 pints of blood.
Mr. Bipuah Hanif, President of the Youth Wing, said it has been their tradition to donate blood every year and that this was in fulfillment of the Islamic teachings of love and sacrifice.
He appealed to the nation’s youth to desist from alcohol and drugs to stay healthy and become more useful to themselves, family and nation.
