President Akufo-Addo has urged Ghanaians to vote for candidates capable of ensuring peaceful elections for national development should be prioritised.
He asserted that social partners play a crucial role in defending and upholding the constitution's ideals. Workers are therefore to maintain their integrity, professionalism, and discipline in the lead-up to the elections.
Speaking at the May Day celebrations at the Black Star Square in Accra, he emphasised, “Politics should not unduly polarize us. Elections are about making choices from available personalities and policies, the fact that we have different preferences should not make us enemies, we are brothers and sisters who would continue living together in the only country that God has given us even after the election, we must remember that despite the heightened stake in previous election, we exhibited a great deal of political maturity in navigating the challenges we face.
He notes that various governance and security institutions have proven their worth and displayed independence and resilience in this demanding time.
“Our capacity for securing peaceful election ahead of the 2024 electioneering season, was tested in 2023 when we conducted two by-elections in the Kumawu and the Assin North Constituency and again yesterday when we conducted another peaceful by-election in Ejisu, these by-elections have signalled our preparedness for peaceful election in 2024.”
"The government is confident that the peace observed in these by-elections will manifest in the December polls,” he concludes.
