The people of Akyem Sagyimase officially enstooled Nyarko Patricia Ofosua as Nana Afia Ofosua Danquah I, Queen Mother of Akyem Sagyimase and Okyeman Nifaaman Baamuhemaa, on February 8, 2025, ushering in a new era of traditional leadership centred on community development and social transformation.

Her installation marked the beginning of a journey dedicated to championing the welfare of women, children, the youth and vulnerable members of society while preserving the rich customs and traditions of the Okyeman area.

Since ascending to the stool, Nana Afia Ofosua Danquah I has consistently expressed her desire to use the institution of chieftaincy as a platform to improve livelihoods through education, skills development and healthcare interventions.

That vision took a significant step forward on July 11, 2026, when she officially launched the Nana Afia Ofosua Foundation, a non-profit organisation established to drive sustainable community development across Akyem Sagyimase and beyond.

The launch ceremony attracted prominent government officials and traditional leaders, including Ashanti Regional Minister Dr Frank Amoakohene, Akyem Abuakwa South Member of Parliament Kingsley Agyeman, and Abuakwa South Municipal Chief Executive Addo Aikins Junior, who commended the Queen Mother’s commitment to social development.

Speaking at the event, Nana Afia Ofosua Danquah I said the foundation represents an extension of the responsibilities entrusted to her during her enstoolment, noting that traditional leadership must go beyond preserving culture to addressing the pressing needs of communities.

She explained that the foundation will focus on empowering young people through vocational training and craftsmanship programmes, helping them acquire employable skills and create sustainable livelihoods.

In addition, the organisation will support children’s education through scholarship and educational assistance programmes while providing healthcare outreach and welfare support for the aged and other vulnerable groups.

The Queen Mother also reaffirmed her commitment to promoting women’s empowerment and partnering with government agencies, development organisations and traditional authorities to implement impactful community projects.

The Nana Afia Ofosua Foundation operates under the vision of empowering queen mothers as catalysts for positive change by preserving cultural heritage while promoting education, healthcare, women’s empowerment, youth development and sustainable community growth.

Its mission is to unite and support queen mothers in championing community development through advocacy, leadership, social welfare, cultural preservation and strategic partnerships that improve the lives of women, children and vulnerable persons.

For many residents, the establishment of the foundation is seen as the practical fulfilment of the promises made when Nana Afia Ofosua Danquah I was enstooled in February 2025. What began with her acceptance of a traditional leadership role has now evolved into a broader commitment to delivering lasting social impact through initiatives that place education, empowerment and community welfare at the heart of development.
