AngloGold Ashanti Obuasi Mine has handed over a 20-seater washroom facility to the Anyimadukrom community in the Ashanti Region, to lessen the negative impact of insanitary conditions.
The project is part of the company's 10-year development plan of improving the livelihoods of host communities.

The 630,000 cedis facility which will serve over 4,000 residents is to help eradicate open defecation in the Anyimadukrom community.
According to the Senior Manager, Sustainability at AngloGold Ashanti, environmental stewardship is critical to the gold mine.

Emmanuel Baidoo urged the community to ensure proper maintenance to sustain the facility.
"As a company, we believe in providing communities in our catchment areas with such facilities to address the negative impact associated with the lack of public and household facilities,"he noted.
The facility was constructed a few meters from the Kwabrafoso cluster of schools to also serve students.

Assembly Member, Yakubu Lamin, said the community had been in dire need of a toilet facility.
He commended AGA for addressing the problem and improving sanitation in the area.
"We approached AGA to help us with the construction of the facility and fortunately they heeded our call. We're grateful for the gesture," he said.
The Assembly Member promised "to set up a committee to ensure that the facility is properly maintained."
