Some agitated youth of Bimbilla have petitioned the Northern regional House of Chiefs to review its decision to endorse Naa Andani Dasana Abdulai as chief of the area.
A ruling was made in favour of the chief after eight years of legal wrangling.
The youth held a press conference Friday to communicate their appeal and requested the house of chiefs to act as a matter of urgency, insisting the decision was unfair.
An aide to the opposing royal family and a leader of the youth, Abdul Rauf Junait, told Joy news they may go to court to prevent Naa Andani Dasana from acting as chief of Bimbilla because “he does not hold any of the royal chieftaincy titles.”
He said: “Neither has he [Naa Andani] served as a regent for purposes of becoming Bimbilla Naa, meaning he is just a commoner.”
“The purported nomination, election and enskinment were done by another commoner, a person without any chieftaincy title.”
Abdul Rauf insisted the enskinment of Naa Andani [a commoner] by another commoner undermined the valued customs of the people.
