A sod-cutting ceremony, led by Otumfuo Osei Tutu II, Asantehene, has been held to start with the construction of a 9-storey alumni hostel at the Kwame Nkrumah University of Science and Technology (KNUST).
The facility is expected to accommodate the increasing number of students enrolled at the institution.
The Asantehene on Saturday also commissioned other projects like GUSS Sports Complex, Beach Soccer Park and Hospital Car Park.
The sod-cutting ceremony held on Friday, April 19, 2019, was part of activities to mark the Chancellor’s Day organised by KNUST in honour of the Otumfuo on his 20 years anniversary.

CEO of Safi Properties Limited, the company selected for the construction, Samuel Freduah Agyemang, said the Hostel is expected to be completed within eight months.
Mr Freduah Agyemang hinted that after the Build-Operate-Transfer (BOT) hostel facility is completed, it will be able to accommodate at least 1,000 students.
The Board Chairman of the Safi Properties Limited, Bishop Divine Adjei, lauded the support of Otumfuo Osei Tutu II and Vice-Chancellor of the Institution, Prof Obiri Danso, towards KNUST activities and projects.
Bishop Divine Adjei promised that the company will ensure that all the completed projects bring about a facelift in the university’s infrastructure.
