The Amaniampong Silver Stool Palace at Asante Mampong is the centre of attraction as the Asantehene climaxes the royal burial rites of the late Mamponghene, Daasebre Osei Bonsu II.
The body of the late traditional ruler has been lying in repose as traditional leaders, family members, and the general public solemnly pay their last respects.

The burial rites, known in Akan as 'Dɔte Yie', is a period of mourning as people clad in black and red participate in several traditional and cultural activities.
Traditional priests have been attracting attention with their rituals, processions and antics setting a somber tone for people to pay their tribute.

Among the guests trooping to Asante Mampong are members of the National House of Chiefs, Asante royals, politicians, celebrities, representatives of various groups, and natives and friends of Mampong.
A royal contingent representing Eswatini King also attended the Mamponghene's pre-burial rites.

Sitting in state to welcome sympathisers are the Mamponghemaa, other Asante chiefs and widow of the late Mamponghene, Mrs Janet Dorothy Gyima Kesse.

On Sunday, members of the legal fraternity staged a mock court proceeding to pay tribute to Daasebre Osei Bonsu for his dedication and contribution to the legal profession.

As an academic and administrator, he served as the Registrar of the Kwame Nkrumah University of Science and Technology (KNUST) from 1991 until his retirement in 2000, after 28 years of service.

He ascended the Asante Mampong throne on August 25, 1996, and became the 28th occupant of the Silver Stool and Krontihene of Asanteman.

He passed away in April 2025 at the age of 85.
