Large quantities of dangerous narcotic drugs, including high-dose tramadol popularly known as “Red” and marijuana, have been destroyed in the Ashanti Region as part of intensified efforts by the police to combat drug abuse and illicit trafficking.

The Ashanti Regional Police Command, in collaboration with the Food and Drugs Authority (FDA), supervised the burning of the illicit substances at the Kaase Landfill Site.
The consignment included tramadol in strengths ranging from 50 milligrams to 225 milligrams, with the 150-milligram variant found in significant quantities.
According to the Drug Law Enforcement Unit of the Ashanti Regional Police Command, the drugs were intercepted through various intelligence-led operations conducted over the past two years.

Speaking ahead of the exercise, the Commanding Officer of the Drug Law Enforcement Unit at the Ashanti Regional Police Command, ASP Fraizer Nutakor, said the destruction forms part of the government’s sustained efforts to curb drug abuse and illicit drug trafficking in the country.
He noted that the interventions have yielded positive results and assured the public of the police administration’s renewed commitment to clamp down on the sale and distribution of illegal drugs across the region.

ASP Nutakor further urged the public to support the police with timely and credible information to help dismantle drug trafficking networks and protect communities from the harmful effects of narcotic substances.
