The Ashanti Regional Security Council (REGSEC) has joined forces with the Ghana National Fire Service to conduct a comprehensive investigation into the increasing number of fire outbreaks in the region.
The region has recently witnessed a series of fire incidents, including market fires, raising concerns about safety and economic losses.
Speaking at a press briefing in Kumasi, Ashanti Regional Minister Dr. Frank Amoakohene emphasized that findings from the investigations would inform strategic measures to curb the situation.
“We have teamed up with the Fire Department to halt the fire incidents being recorded. We will also investigate those that have already happened. We cannot lose investments and capital to these fires. The negligence of people shouldn’t be resulting in the losses being recorded,” he stated.
He highlighted key commercial areas affected by the fires, including Kwadaso Wood Market, Suame Magazine, and Kejetia Market.
“The sad situation is that the part of the Kejetia Market that burnt some time ago is yet to be restored,” Dr Amoakohene lamented.
Since the beginning of 2025, the Ashanti Region has already recorded 183 fire cases, prompting urgent intervention from authorities to prevent further destruction.
