The National Chairman of the National Democratic Congress (NDC), Johnson Asiedu Nketiah, has called on traditional leaders and religious figures to counsel President Akufo-Addo on the importance of a peaceful transition of power after the December elections.
His appeal was in reaction to the Chiefs of Damang/Ahwrese in the Nsawam Adoagyiri constituency, who have advocated for peaceful elections.
Mr Asiedu Nketiah accused the President of permitting electoral violence and failing to act on the recommendations of a committee set up to investigate such incidents.
He emphasised that it is crucial for chiefs and religious leaders to ensure that the President is held accountable to prevent any chaos.
Mr Nketiah stated, “If our nation’s leaders truly desire peace, I urge you to counsel the President to hand over power peacefully as his tenure comes to an end. He inherited a peaceful nation; let him ensure the same tranquillity prevails when he departs.”
“Respected traditional leaders (Nananom) and clergy, you possess significant influence. Speak the truth, and no politician will dare disobey you. Your words carry weight, and we implore you to use your authority to promote a peaceful transition.”
