Dr Stephen Amoah, New Patriotic Party (NPP) Member of Parliament for Nhyiaeso, Kumasi has acknowledged the expertise of Finance Minister Dr Cassiel Ato Forson, despite being on opposing political sides.
Speaking on JoyNews' Newsfile programme on Saturday, 15th March 2025, Dr Amoah stated that his experience working with Dr Forson in Parliament has given him confidence in the Finance Minister’s competence.
His remarks followed the presentation of the 2025 Budget Statement by Dr Forson on Tuesday, 11th March.
While discussing the economic policies outlined in the budget, Dr Amoah emphasised that he would not shy away from giving credit where it is due.
“Ato Forson is a very knowledgeable Finance Minister. When I say it, people attack, but I have worked with him on the Finance Committee of Parliament, and I know what I am talking about,” he remarked.
Despite his praise for the Finance Minister’s expertise, Dr Amoah did not shy away from critiquing aspects of the budget.
He suggested that while the budget contains some promising initiatives, the government must take bold steps to address economic challenges, including inflation, debt sustainability, and job creation.
“Competence alone is not enough; we need strategic implementation to achieve real economic progress,” he added.
Dr Amoah also stressed the importance of bipartisan collaboration in addressing Ghana’s economic difficulties.
He urged policymakers from both the ruling National Democratic Congress (NDC) and the opposition NPP to work together in the national interest rather than engaging in political point-scoring.
“The economy is bigger than political parties; we must prioritise the welfare of Ghanaians over partisan debates,” he stated.
