An NPP communicator in the Northern region, Fredrick Tahiru has allegedly bitten his NDC counterpart during a heated radio discussion at North Star FM.
The two were debating the call by the NDC General Secretary Asiedu Nketiah to have the running mate of the NPP Dr Mahamud Bawumia arrested for allegedly forging documents to deceive the Electoral Commission.
Narrating the incident, the victim told Myjoyonline.com, at some point in the argument, the NPP's Fredrick Tahiru referred to provocative comments by an NDC communicator known as Robert on Kuamsi-based Boss FM.
Robert Owusu had vowed to slash NPP members with cutlasses if anyone dared to cause trouble before and after the 2016 general elections.
Frederick Tahiru reportedly used the occasion on North Star radio to respond to the NDC man in Kumasi. He said the NPP is even more prepared than the NDC to use violence if provoked.
But the NDC's Mahama Zakaria in reaction, condemned the initial comment made by Robert and also went ahead to criticise his NPP colleague for giving an "extremist response".
"I thought that what our communicator said was not in good taste but then you don't come and justify and show how preparered you were" Mahama Zakaria.
According to the NDC man, Fredrick Tahiru also took exception to being described as an extremist and began to heckle him.
Fredrick Tahiru hit Mahama Zakaria's hand while he was gesticulating with his hands.
"I saw that he was up to something so I hit him back and we started struggling" Zakaria said.
He said the exchanges got a bit physical and was bitten on the right cheek by Tahiru. He was taken to the Kabsad Hospital in Tamale and treated and later discharged.
The radio station has confirmed the incident and attempts to speak to Fredrick Tahiru have proved unsuccessful.
