International NGO, B-HECK Africa NGOs Alliance is set to honour six traditional leaders and rulers across the country for their contribution to local government enhancement.
The initiative is to honour them for their contribution to proper local governance and spurring development at the community level.
The event which is scheduled for November 27, will honour the contribution of traditional leaders in advancing local development.
Dubbed the Royal Citizens Award, it will recognise carefully selected traditional leaders who have contributed to significant development in their communities through proper local governance systems.
Officials of B-HECK Africa NGOs Alliance paid a courtesy call on the Juabenhene, who will be honoured on the day, and officially invited him for the event.
Popular Actress, Akofa Edjieni Asiedu is the Event Organiser.
"We know that most of them (chiefs) are doing extremely wonderful things that are impacting their people in areas like agriculture, education and others
we (B-HECK) believe that local government enhancement is something we need to encourage more because we can’t leave it for the central government. In the olden days, it was our rulers facilitating development until MMDCEs began to take over, almost overshadowing them."
These celebrations for the iconic seven after a survey was done, are in the right direction and spur them on to do more. officials say subsequent years, the awards will also target the sub-chiefs that are also doing very well in different areas.
Madam Ejieni Asiedu also revealed the occasion will be used to support the chiefs raising funds for specific projects in their communities.
“The main attraction is for them after the celebration to put it out there what we call their passion project...or Something extraordinary they want to do in their communities.
we will facilitate and help them raise funds to embark on such projects. We have a lot of citizens outside of the country and their community who would want to help when they hear their king call out for support. we hope that this activity will foster this unity and harmony we need as one people and one nation."
The Juabenhene, Nana Otuo Siriboe the Second, who received the invitation from the team during the Akwasidae celebrations in his palace, was excited by the honour.
Organisers say the Royal Citizens Awards Celebrations will become an annual ceremony to honour deserving persons across the country.
