The Ashanti Regional office of the National Sports Council has announced the suspension of all activities on the football pitch at the Baba Yara Sports stadium, Kumasi, with effect from Monday, September 21.
It said all Sporting Clubs and the general public are being informed that “The closure of the stadium would last till such a time that all the intended works to rejuvenate the pitch are completed”.
Mr Francis Kpesenu, Regional Sports Development Officer in a press release said “the closure of the stadium is due to the fact that the off-season is the most opportune time to rest the football pitches completely for renovation and other works to put them in a rejuvenated condition for the coming season”.
He said the caretakers of the pitches, Green Grass Technology, requested for a minimum of four to six weeks for the renovation works on the pitches.
The Sports Development Officer said the action has also been with the mutual consent of the Minister of Youth and Sports and the Chief Executive Officer of the National Sports Council.
He calls on all stakeholders including the clubs, supporters and the general public to endeavour to support the maintenance exercise to make it a success.
