The Speaker of Parliament, Alban Sumana Bagbin, has departed for Australia to participate in the 67th Commonwealth Parliamentary Association (CPA) International Conference in Sydney, New South Wales.
This high-profile event brings together parliamentary representatives from member countries to discuss key issues impacting governance and democracy.
Speaker Bagbin is leading a distinguished Ghanaian delegation that includes notable officials such as former Majority Leader and Member of Parliament for Suame, Osei Kyei Mensah Bonsu, along with the current Leaders of the House, both Whips, the Clerk to Parliament, and additional officials from the Parliamentary Service.
The conference aims to provide a platform for member states to share experiences and explore solutions to common challenges.
Ghana’s delegation is expected to engage in discussions that cover a range of topics, from policy frameworks and democratic governance to strategies for addressing pressing social and economic issues.
A press release from the Public Affairs Sub-division of the Parliamentary Service, dated October 30, confirmed the delegation’s travel and outlined their goals for the event.
The statement highlighted the importance of international collaboration and the anticipated impact of insights gained on Ghana's parliamentary functions.
“The conference is to take place from the 3rd to the 8th of November, where Speaker Bagbin, the Immediate Past President of CPA International, is expected to hand over to the newly elected President of the Commonwealth Parliamentary Association, the Speaker of the Parliament of New South Wales, Australia,” the release said.
The CPA International Conference is an annual event that fosters dialogue among parliamentary leaders globally, facilitating cooperation and exchange of best practices to improve legislative functions and democratic governance across Commonwealth nations.
