Ghana hosted the 7th Zone 2 Swimming and Open Water Championship which attracted the crème de la crème of swimmers from 22 West and Central African countries.

The event which came off at The Trust Emporium at Bukom in Accra. provided a platform for Ghana to showcase its young and budding swimming stars.

The competition which was from March 5 to 8, gave talents including Abeiku Jackson, Kaya Forson, Maayaa Ayawere, Niklas Yeboah, Kow Jackson and many more the opportunity to shine.

In attendance were high ranking dignitaries from the African governing body of swimming (CANA), Executive of the Ghana Swimming Authorities (GSA); the Director General of the National Sports Authority (NSA)the Minister of Youth and Sports, the Mayor of Accra and of course, officials of BANK OF AFRICA.

In an interview with officials of the Bank of Africa, they explained that the bank’s love and commitment to sports is what motivated them to partner with the GSA to organise this competition.

They believe that this platform will give an opportunity to young talents who, but for this tournament or other similar tournaments, would not have had the opportunity to showcase their potential to the world.

The organisers of the competition were full of praise for Bank's support and appealed to corporate Ghana to support lesser-known sports.

At the end of the competition Senegal came tops with 21 Gold, 16 Silver and 12 Bronze medals.

Nigeria was second with 9 Gold, 13 Silver and 9 Bronze medals. Ghana was third with 4 Gold, 8 Silver and 16 Bronze medals.
