Bawjiase is a quiet town located in the Ewutu Senya District of the Central Region and can be said to be one big food basket as farmers cultivate a variety of cash crops which contribute to Ghana’s GDP, yet the community has seen little development by successive governments.
Peasant farming is the predominant occupation in the community. With the start of a new year, the farmers are back on their farms preparing their lands for cultivation. Cash crops such as Coconut, Pineapple, Oil Palm and Sugar Cane are among the crops grown in this town. The town's women are also engaged in manufacturing activities such as tiger nut milk production and gari processing.
The town has one main Senior High School, the Obakyere Secondary Technical which initially started as a community school. It has over the years seen an increase in its student population, but the infrastructural space has not increased. Desks sit outside for lack of space and the girl’s dormitory is just too small to house the students.
Stanley Boakye, Snr. House Mater of OSTEC is calling on government agencies and this Mahama led government to come to their aid.
He adds that the only good news is, the Boys Dormitory which was razed down by a fire last December has been rebuilt and has improved facilities thanks in part to the District Assembly, NADMO and some spirited individuals.
In spite of this, the school needs a lot of infrastructural developments because the dormitories which house the students are classrooms which have has to serve that purpose especially for students who come from as far as Accra and Takoradi.
With all the challenges they face, the school’s academic exploits however are not in dispute.
A tour of some parts of the town reveals the urgent need for infrastructural development with the main road from Ewutu Senya towards Agona Swedru needing the most work.
