The Vice President and Chairman of the Police Council, Dr Mahamudu Bawumia, has praised the transformative impact of the initiatives undertaken by Inspector-General of Police Dr George Akuffo Dampare.
He highlighted that these initiatives have visibly enhanced safety in the country and strengthened the relationship between the Police Service and the public.
Dr Bawumia made these remarks during the commissioning of the Ghana Police Service Shop at the Police Headquarters on Wednesday, July 17.
He commended the efforts of the IGP and his management team, noting that their work has significantly improved policing and community engagement.
The Vice President emphasised government's pride in the achievements of Dr Dampare and his team.

He acknowledged that the positive changes implemented under their leadership are making a tangible difference in national security and public trust.
“Ladies and gentlemen, the people of Ghana have witnessed the significant transformation of the Police Service under this administration. The facelift of the National Police Headquarters, the expansion and decentralisation of the Formed Police Unit (FPU) to all 25 Police Regions, enhanced police visibility, decentralisation of the police background checks to all police regions, active community and stakeholder engagements which have taken policing closer to the people, enhanced intelligence operations, uniform uniformity, the Snatch Them Young Policing Initiative which focuses on school Children among several other initiatives have ensured a more responsive, accountable and operationally effective policing institution,” the Vice President said.
He stressed, “Once again, I wish to commend the IGP, the members of the Police Management Board and all officers and men for executing these initiatives under the Police transformation agenda."
"I would like to urge you to continue to do more, especially as the nation prepares to go into a general election come December 7th”
The commissioning of the Police Service Shop represents another step towards improving the service's operations and accessibility.
The Police Shop is a dedicated facility where officers from the security services can purchase additional uniform items beyond what their respective institutions supply.
This shop also stocks institutional souvenirs, which are useful for international exchange programs and other official events.
The establishment of the Police Shop is intended to ensure that officers consistently present a polished appearance in their uniforms and have access to extra resources needed for their duties.
This initiative is part of a broader effort to enhance the professionalism and effectiveness of the security services.
