Boxing fans in Ghana and Africa at large may witness arguable the biggest boxing bout ever to happen on the continent as negotiations are currently underway between the Ghana Boxing Authority( GBA) and IBF, WBA, IBA light-heavyweight world champion Bernard Humphrey Hopkins, Jr. to stage a fight in Ghana by the close of the year.
Hopkins(55-6-2, 32 KOs) at 49 became the oldest boxer ever to win a world title, defend a world title and also unify a weight division after beaten Beibut Shumenov of Kazakhstan for the WBA and IBA light-heavyweight titles on April 20.
The GBA is in talks to sign an agreement with the camp of the American boxer Bernard Hopkins to mount the ring with the most popular boxer in Ghana, Isaac Braimah Kamoko aka Bukom Banku.
Speaking on Asempa “Sports Heroes” programme, the Chief Executive Officer of Ambition Boxing promotion and doubles as Executive Member of Ghana Boxing Authority (GBA) Alhaji Toffic confirmed the bout negotiation.
“I can confirm that we (GBA) are making arrangement with the camp of Bernard Hopkins to fight Bukom Banku for world title fight in Accra. We’ve already started from the top and gotten positive feedback from team Hopkins”. He added.
Meanwhile Bukom Banku and Ayittey Powers will clash on 16th April, 2014 ahead of the proposed Hopkins bout.
