Team Carobeat, after battling it out in the kitchen with two other teams, emerged winners, giving them a free ticket to represent Dr. Hilla Liman Technical University in Season 2 of the Big Chef Tertiary Competition.
The second edition of Joy Prime's culinary extravaganza between technical universities across the country kicked off in Wa at the Dr. Hilla Liman Technical University. Six students were put in pairs, making three groups compete against each other in the kitchen for a spot to represent their school in the competition.
The audition saw the heat in the kitchen turn all the way up as the three teams—Carobeat, Chriswinni, and Latifa—geared up to finish the task within 30 minutes. The judges announced the rules of the competition, and the contestants were prompted to get to work immediately.
While the contestants were cooking it up in the kitchen, Joy Prime's presenter Lois Shola Adeyemi engaged the supporters of the teams in fun games and activities. The supporters expressed their joy at seeing their friends make the school proud.
The 30 minutes allotted to the contestants came to an end. Each team was given the chance to present their dishes to the judges for their final verdict.
The judges, after tasting the meals presented to them by Team Latifa, Team Chriswinni, and Team Carobeat, decided to crown Team Carobeat as the winners of the competition. According to the judges, they deserved to win because they were able to execute the task perfectly. Team Carobeat paid attention to the rules of the kitchen.
The judges agreed that the team is perfect and will be able to represent Technical University and bring the winning trophy back to the north, where they believe it belongs.
Carolina Dumbah and Beatrice Kyebambo of Team Carobeat beamed with joy after winning the competition. They thanked the lecturers at Dr. Hilla Liman Technical University for giving them the opportunity to take part in the competition. They promised to make the school proud in the main competition.
Also, the team shared their excitement about competing with seven other technical tertiary institutions across the country. According to the team, 30 minutes was not enough time for them to execute the task, but their teamwork paid off in the end. They stated that they would be able to show the other contestants what Wa is made of. They thanked Joy Prime for the opportunity to come to Accra, as it will be their first time, and they cannot wait to explore the city.
"I didn't think we would win because we didn't have time. We were scared so much that I didn't think we could finish, but our teamwork and skills in the kitchen evidently made us winners. We are sure that we will make it to the finale and win the award for our school, so the other seven schools should watch out. We are also excited because we will finally get to visit the famous Accra, which we have heard so much about. We want to see the beach, Makola Market, and explore other areas, as this is our first time going there," they explained.
The Big Chef Tertiary Train is moving to the next stop, Bolgatanga Technical University, on August 7, 2024. Three teams will also battle it out in the hot kitchen for a spot to represent their school in the main show.
Will the teams be able to woo the judges with their meals?
Tune in to Joy Prime at 3:00 p.m. to see the team that makes it to the main show. It will also be streaming live on YouTube.
