Ghana coach Kwesi Appiah has given debut call-ups to Mubarak Wakaso and Daniel Nii Adjei for the return fixture against the Flames of Malawi in the final qualifier for the 2013 Africa Cup of Nations this month.
The Black Stars coach also recalled five players including John Pantsil in his 21-man squad for the game in Lilongwe on 13th October.
Other returnees to the Black Stars are David Addy, Jonathan Mensah, Rabiu Mohammed and goalkeeper Philemon McCarthy.
Derek Boateng, Daniel Opare, Jordan Ayew and Samuel Inkoom are among the players left out of the squad as Ghana fights to qualify for the tournament in South Africa early next year.
Wakaso, who plays for Spanish top-flight side Espanyol, has been given his first senior call-up thanks to his flying start in the Spanish La Liga and his versatility.
The midfielder who also plays in defence as a left-back has played all five matches for his club so far this season and scored one goal.
Asante Kotoko midfielder Daniel Nii Adjei, who is the reigning Ghana Premier League best player, also gets his debut invitation to the Black Stars having also impressed in the off-season.
Paintsil is among the five players returning to the team as he looks to reclaim his favourite right-back position after a seven month absence.
The senior defender’s lack of action led to his exclusion but has been in good form for Hapoel Tel Aviv since returning to the Israeli side in August means he takes the places of Opare and Inkoom.
Mensah, who has not played for the Black Stars since a serious knee injury in January, also make a return as he has been playing regularly for his French club Evian in Ligue 1.
His team-mate Mohammed also makes a return in his roller-coaster Black Stars career while Portugal-based David Addy also returns after a three-year absence thanks to his form with Vitoria Guimaraes.
Hearts of Oak goalkeeper Philemon McCarthy, who has long been regarded by many, as a competent Black Stars first choice shot-stopper also makes a return after a six-year absence
The Black Stars are seeking to qualify for next year’s finals in South Africa after winning the first leg 2-0 at home last month.
