The biggest local reggae show ever to hit Ghana, the Odwira Reggae Festival, which came off at Aburi last Saturday had a big, wet damper splashed when the heavens opened up in full force for hours with showers of torrential rain. Right after the durbar of chiefs, the Aburi gardens was instantly thronged by thousands of reggae fans including the President of Ghana, H.E. John Mahama, Rita Marley and Aburi chief, Nana Djan Kweku II who had to seek shelter from the even before gates could open for the much-awaited concert. Headlining acts, Blakk Rasta and Ras Kimono nevertheless were bent on going on with the concert which was bedeviled by technical hitches. The concert was hard-hitting as all seventeen artistes put up their best to satisfy the fans who were undaunted even in the face of the unceasing rain. When Blakk Rasta mounted the stage in full army camouflage, a little after 4am, the audience went crazy responding to his immense, untold energy. He impressed massively belting out hit after hit including all-time favourite Barack Obama, Joseph Hill, Chucku Laryea, Selassie I live, and Our Africa with Jah Amber. Nevertheless, it was his Goat Dance song that provided the icing on the cake as he left the whole crowd bleating like goats and doing the goat dance. The Herbalist band played so well several patrons wondered how long they had been playing as a band for Blakk Rasta. Ras Kimono still had his antics and energy as he closed the show after several minutes of positive energy and style. He sang Under Pressure, Veteran, Kimono De Want, and many more. The biggest moment for the veteran was when he invited Blakk Rasta on stage again for them to do the Goat Dance song which attracted gargantuan cheers. It was a memorable concert which ended the next day Sunday, at 6:35am.
