The Executive Director for Action for Rural Education, Kofi Asare has indicated Ghana’s inability to achieve her ICT education target is due to the Ghana Education Service’s (GES) inability to pay attractive fees to teachers who will teach ICT in schools.Speaking in an interview with Joy News TV, Mr. Asare attributed Ghana’s slow progress in meeting the Millennium Development Goals on education to the misplaced priorities in implementing key education interventions in the country.He cited the distribution of some 60,000 free computers to students in rural communities without access to electricity as a major example of the misplaced priorities.He also raised concern over the lack of transparent mechanisms to distribute and monitor free school uniforms, low BECE pass rates and poor or absent classroom supervision in the country.Action for Rural Education in partnership with Child Right international is implementing the Education Agenda 2015 (EA 2015) project, a one year advocacy campaign aimed at developing a civil society education manifesto.The project will also engage political parties on the Education Strategic Plan (ESP 2010-2020) to get them to commit to implement the broad policy plans embodied in the ESP 2010-2020 plan as well as specific policy proposals embodied in the Civil Society Manifesto.Speaking at the launch of the Civil Society education Manifesto in Accra, Bright Appiah, Executive Director of Child Rights International said the EA – 2015 project will create a strategic alliance with non-governmental organizations in order to deepen the scope and reach of its advocacy message.He assured that upon successful start of operations, the EA 2015 project shall engage and monitor the implementation of policy proposals contained in the education manifesto to ensure a successful completion of the MDG race in 2015.
