Managers of the Boabeng-Fiema Monkey Sanctuary in the Brong Ahafo region have appealed to the government to construct the road linking the site with neighbouring communities.
The Manager of the sanctuary, Annor Donyina, told Adom news’ Christian Ofori Kumah that people hardly visit the site due to the bad nature of the road that connects the Sanctuary to nearby towns.

Boabeng-Fiema Monkey Sanctuary, a popular tourist attraction situated in the Nkoranza North District of the region is home to over 700 monkeys.

Roads from Busunya Senior High School and Tanko, a nearby town are all in a deplorable state and this, according to the manager, has made the site less attractive to tourists.
“Besides, the monkey sanctuary also serve as an avenue for local farmers and small businesses to sell their produce but the bad road makes it difficult for most of them to come to the Centre, ’’ Annor Donyina said.

In addition, the manager said bad communication network in the area also affects patronage of the sanctuary as tourists always complain of not being able to browse the internet and make phone calls.
A tour guide at the facility, Edmond Gyan also said lack of accommodation for visitors also affected productivity.
“There are no guest houses around. The only one we have here is not in good shape. Patrons complain each time they come to sleep there,” he told Adom News.
A Unit Committee Chairman of the area, Damoah Moses said some few commercial vehicles; including motorcycles which used to transport visitors have all developed faults as a result of the bad nature of the roads.

“I am scared, the road may just become impassable if nothing urgent is done to rehabilitate it before the peak of the rainy season from this month, April upwards."
The managers pleaded with the government to construct roads that lead to the Sanctuary and build guest houses close to the sanctuary to revive patronage there.
Also they prayed mobile network companies to improve mobile network connectivity in the area.
