The Bank of Ghana has set 15th August, 2025, as the deadline for the registration of all Virtual Asset Service Providers (VASPs).
This is pursuant to its mandate of maintaining financial stability and consistent with its ongoing efforts to promote, integrity, innovation and consumer protection in the digital financial ecosystem.
According to the Central Bank, this registration is part of a preliminary regulatory process to identify and assess entities engaging in virtual asset activities. This includes virtual asset exchange services, wallet provision or custody services; transfer or settlement services involving virtual assets; and services related to the issuance or sale of virtual assets, including initial coin offerings (ICOs) and stablecoins.
It disclosed in a statement that failure to comply may result in regulatory sanctions or disqualification from future licensing.
It added that the registration does not constitute a licence to operate, nor does it imply legal recognition or approval.
The Central Bank continued that the exercise is aimed at ensuring that the forthcoming legal and regulatory frameworks for VASPs are informed by market developments and aligned with international best practices.
It concluded that all VASPs currently offering services to persons resident in Ghana, whether through physical presence or digital platforms, are required to complete the registration process via https://forms.office.com/r/XqthpEkhkQ
