The Minister for Youth and Sports, Mustapha Ussif, has revealed the maintenance plan for the Borteyman Sports Complex to ensure the facility stays in shape after the 2023 African Games.
Borteyman Sports Complex is one of the major venues to host the continental game alongside the University of Ghana Stadium.
Facilities have been left to deteriorate several months after serving its purpose and there are concerns the Borteyman Complex could be in the same situation.
However, Ussif, says the facility will serve a different purpose at the end of the African Games to keep it in a good state.
"To ensure the facilities are well maintained for the continuous benefit of the good people of Ghana, the facilities at Borteyman will be converted into a University of Sports for Development after the Games," he said in a press briefing on Monday, March 4.
He added that recreational facilities will also be provided at the venue to attract people from all parts of the world.
"Additional infrastructure such as hostel facilities, football pitches, cafeteria and a medical centre will be provided at the site," he continued.
"This will attract local and foreign sports federations to camp in Ghana and prepare for various competitions [and] position Ghana as a sports hub within the West African sub-region."
The 2023 African Games commenced on Sunday, March 3, with the opening ceremony set for Friday, March 8.
