Homeless residents at Old Fadama in Accra whose houses were demolished Saturday have occupied the State House demanding to see the president.
The protestors numbering about 500 early on took to the streets blocking some of the major roads in Accra, particularly the ceremonial road around National Theatre before making their way to the State House.
They are brandishing placards eulogising the New Patriotic Party flagbearer Nana Akufo-Addo and shouting No Akufo-Addo, no vote in 2016.

It is not clear what their intentions are at the moment.
There are a few policemen on the scene of the demonstration who appear to have been overwhelmed. There was some police reinforcement who came with riot controlling equipment including tear gas which they fired at some point but that did not stop the demonstrators from getting to their destination-State House.

Joy News' Kwakye Afreh Nuamah who is at the State House said the demonstrators are demanding to see the president. They are angry their houses have been demolished.
The president obviously cannot be at the State House so the protestors have the police for company.
The police have issued an ultimatum to the demonstrators to vacate the premises, but they would have none of that. Rather some have come with their mats which they have laid on the bare floor and are having a good morning sleep in the midst of the chaos.
The protestors have turned violent, attacking some journalists and destroying some public properties.
A Joy News reporter Latiff Iddrisu sustained minor injuries from the assault whilst some police vehicles had their door glasses shattered.
