The Chief Executive Officer of The Trust Hospital, Dr. Juliana Oyeh Ameh has cautioned women to refrain from using herbal medicines in the diagnosis and treatment of breast cancer.
Speaking at the launch of the 2021 Breast Cancer Awareness Month by The Trust Hospital, she intimated that most herbal medicines are not potent enough to deal with the breast cancer disease, therefore women should desist from patronizing them.
Dr. Ameh further lamented the way some women ignore their personal hygiene and safety, urging that, women must embrace the habit of quality self-care in order to become meaningful assets to their families, loved ones and the society at large.
The event, which was held under the theme, ‘Detect Early, treat effectively’, also saw the Member of Parliament for the Klottey-Korle Constituency, Dr. Zanetor Agyemang-Rawlings advising women to take proper care of their bodies to avoid contracting the disease.
She stressed that in fighting breast cancer, women must take personal responsibility for their bodies despite the interventions by government and other relevant stakeholders.
A breast cancer survivor, Grace Kuwornu, who spoke to JoyNews, advised her fellow women to conduct frequent self-examination exercises in order to avoid the painful ordeals that come with contracting the disease.
Over the years, breast cancer has proven to be one of the major causes of death amongst women. Apart from the loss of lives, the disease interferes with the regular routines of victims, making it difficult for them to cruise their way through life.
The general discomfort, high cost of treatment and the psychological implications, usually leave patients depressed and lifeless.
The Breast Cancer Awareness Month is therefore an annual commemoration, designed to create more awareness about the causes, treatment and prevention of breast cancer across the globe.
