President of Breast Care International (BCI), Dr Beatrice Wiafe Addae says recent checks in the country have revealed that younger women are contracting the disease.
October has been set aside annually as Breast Cancer Awareness Month to serve as a reminder for all women to be screened for breast cancer.
All over the world, breast cancer is the most frequently diagnosed cancer and the leading cause of cancer deaths among women. The global incidence and mortality of breast cancer keeps rising with Ghana not being an exception.
An estimation of nearly 1.7million new cases of breast cancer are diagnosed with a further estimated 522,000 deaths occurring around the world.
In an interview with Joy News, Dr Beatice Wiafe Addai said Ghana records about three thousand breast cancer cases each year and it keeps increasing.

According to BCI, about 60% of Ghanaian women who are diagnosed with breast cancer are usually found in the advanced stages of the disease.
She said moving forward, Breast Care International will focus more on the youth in the in awareness campaigns.
