Information reaching Asempa News indicates that the Cape Coast Polytechnic Council (C-Poly) has been dissolved due to concerns raised by the agitated members of the Polytechnic Teachers Association of Ghana (POTAG) at the Cape Coast Polytechnic.
The teachers had expressed their unhappiness about the processes being used to appoint a Rector for C-Poly. The staff of the Cape Coast Poly held a press conference last week and threatened that if Dr. Lawrence Tepor, who has been working with C-Poly since 1997 but only obtained a PhD in 2009, is made the Rector, the teachers will advise themselves.
The C-Poly teachers stated that Dr. Tepor does not qualify for the position, necessitating the need to raise red flags after he was shortlisted for the position.
The teachers also called for the dissolution of the C-Poly Council.
The Cape Coast POTAG was scheduled to meet with the Minister of Education this week to discuss the way forward with regards to the issue of appointing a Rector for the Cape Coast Polytechnic but Asempa News has learnt that, the Council has been dissolved.
The Spokesperson for Cape Coast POTAG Mr. Emmanuel Offei Appiah who confirmed the dissolution of the C-Poly Council in an interview on “Asempa Today” on Monday revealed that the Minister for Education Betty Mould-Iddrisu called him on phone to inform him of the latest development.
Mr. Offei Appiah said the Minister, however, told him that President Atta Mills dissolved the C-Poly some two weeks; a revelation he finds strange since such communication should have reached them long ago even before they came out last week.
According to the Spokesperson for Cape Coast POTAG, they planned going to court to seek injunction on the appointment of a Rector until all concerns are resolved but, they will wait for a copy of President Mills’ letter which contains the dissolution of the C-Poly Council to inform them on their net line of action.
