Unidentified gunmen attacked a cargo truck in the Bawku suburb of Missiga on Thursday, January 16, JoyNews has learned.
According to JoyNews correspondent Albert Sore, the vehicle was travelling from the border town of Kulungugu to Bawku township under a purported military escort when the gunmen, concealed in an obscure location nearby, opened fire on the truck before fleeing the scene.
He stated that no casualties were reported in the incident.
The military command in Bawku has declined to comment on the attack, though they have not denied its occurrence.
This latest incident highlights the ongoing insecurity in the area, which has seen frequent attacks on vehicles, sometimes even those under police escort.
These attacks are believed to be linked to the chieftaincy conflict between the Kusasi and Mamprusi factions in the Upper East region town of Bawku.
