All charges levelled against the National Vice Chairman of the National Democratic Congress (NDC), Alhaji Said Sinare have been dropped by the state.

This happened at the Kaneshie District Court where he was arraigned over an allegation of distributing weapons to some persons to cause mayhem during the December elections.

Tahiru Ahmed, the Ayawaso North Constituency Chairperson of the opposition NDC is reported to have told the police that Alhaji Sinare supplied guns to some youth to cause mayhem in the upcoming polls.

He was charged with conspiracy to commit crime, to wit, procession of fire arms without lawful authority, and possession of firearms without lawful authority.

Speaking after Alhaji Sinare was discharged by the court Thursday, a lawyer for the Vice Chairman, Abraham Amaliba told journalists that the prosecution saw through what he believes was a weak case made against his client leading to his acquittal.

“The charges that were brought to the court were not well-founded and so I’m sure the prosecution saw that there were some gaps in the charges and that is why they withdrew it,” he said.

He further added that, “Alhaji Sinare has got his freedom back. His liberties have been restored. Alhaji Sinare is now going to walk home a free man and that is what is important.”

The NDC Vice-Chairman was received by a gathering of chanting party faithful who had massed up in front of the Kaneshie District Court in solidarity.

In a related development, Mr Said has written to the NDC National Chairman, Samuel Ofosu Ampofo, to sanction Tahiru Ahmed, Ayawaso North Constituency Chairperson who is said to have accused him over handing out guns to the said youth.

Alhaji Said, in a letter sighted by JoyNews, said the move by Mr. Tahiru is an act of disloyalty, and a will to fight against the interest of the party.

Shortly after the charges against the Vice Chairman were dropped on Thursday, Mr Ahmed was expelled from the party with immediate effect for what the NDC says is a breach of Article 46 (8) of its constitution.
