Guinness World Records has responded to claims by Ghanaian chef Ebenezer Smith that he is the new record holder for the longest cooking marathon by an individual.
This comes after Chef Smith had announced to the media at a press conference held at the La Palm Hotel on Tuesday, July 2, 2024, that he is the new cook-a-thon record holder adducing as proof a certificate.
“I am deeply humbled and honoured to announce that I am now the new world record holder for the cook-a-thon,” he said.
The inscription on his certificate reads: “The longest cooking marathon (individual) is 802 hours 25 minutes and was achieved by Ebenezer Smith (Ghanaian) in Spintex, Accra, Ghana. From 1 February to 6 March, 2024.”

However, in a reply to a mail sent by Joy FM's Kwame Dadzie, a PR Executive of the Guinness World Records, Alina Polianskaya indicated that Chef Smith's assertion is false.
This enquiry was necessitated by doubts about the authenticity of Chef Smith's certificate and the unavailability of posts by the Guinness World Records, confirming his supposed feat.
"No, this is not true. He does not hold the GWR title, and that is not our certificate. The current and true holder is: the longest cooking marathon (individual) is 119 hours 57 mins 16 secs and was achieved by Alan Fisher (Ireland) in Matsue, Shimane, Japan, from 28 September to 3 October 2023," Alina writes.


In another correspondence between Graphic Showbiz and Guinness World Records, PR Manager, Madalyn Biefield further explained that they are not even aware of Chef Smith's attempt and that they did not receive any application from him.

Meanwhile, the manager of Chef Smith, Benny has provided to Hitz FM, what they consider as proof of validation of their record.
