The remains of Ghanaian international, Christian Atsu, is expected to arrive in Ghana, Sunday, at 7:40pm, says the Ministry of Foreign Affairs.
Christian Atsu was one of thousands that had died in the ghastly earthquake that had rocked Turkey and northern Syria on the dawn of February 6.
The Turkish club confirmed the news mid-morning on Saturday, following earlier submissions to that effect by the player’s two agents.
According to the Foreign Affairs Ministry, arrangements are being put in place to receive the body at the Kotoka International Airport.
“The remains will be accompanied by his family and Ghana’s Ambassador to Turkiye on a Turkish airlines flight and will arrive in Accra at 7:40pm, today, Sunday, 19th February, 2023,” the Ministry’s statement read.
The remains will be received at the Kotoka International Airport by the family, the Ghana Football Association (GFA), and the Government upon its arrival from Istanbul, Turkiye, the Ministry added.
“Our thoughts and prayers are with the bereaved family, and we pray for the eternal repose of the soul of Christian Atsu,” the statement concluded.
