Hope In Sight Foundation on Saturday, 3rd January, 2026, held the annual outreach and 3rd edition of its “MAKE A CHILD SMILE” initiative in the Chwinto Community near Doboro Nsawam of the Eastern Region.

The foundation offered free eye screening, basic health support, school kits, and hot meals to over 400 children and adolescents.

The outreach served beneficiaries between the ages of 1 to 17, many of whom received their first-ever eye screening support.

The “MAKE A CHILD SMILE” outreach began in January 2024 as a personal birthday initiative and has since grown into an annual programme of the Hope In Sight Foundation.

Medical professionals conducted comprehensive eye screening, general health checks, and made referrals where necessary.

In addition to healthcare services, beneficiaries received school kits with essential stationery and hot meals, served in a lively atmosphere with music and games.

Hope In Sight Foundation is a humanitarian, non-profit organization dedicated to improving the vision and overall well-being of vulnerable children across the country.

With a strong focus on eye care and community health outreach, the foundation seeks to bridge the gap in access to essential medical services for children in underserved communities, where preventable and treatable eye conditions often go unnoticed.

The foundation provides free eye care services, including vision screening, basic eye examinations, and referrals for advanced treatment when necessary.

By taking eye care directly into communities, Hope In Sight Foundation ensures that children who would otherwise be excluded due to financial or geographical barriers receive timely attention that can significantly improve their quality of life.

Beyond eye care, Hope In Sight Foundation integrates community health outreach into its programs. These outreaches create awareness about general health, hygiene, and preventive care, while also engaging parents, teachers, and caregivers on the importance of early detection of eye and health-related challenges in children.

The organization was founded by Adjoa Obuo Duodu, whose personal life experience inspired the mission of the foundation.

Growing up with high myopia, she firsthand understood the emotional, academic, and social impact that untreated vision problems can have on a child.

This experience became the driving force behind her commitment to help other children avoid similar challenges.

According to Adjoa Obuo Duodu, poor vision in childhood not only affects sight but also damages confidence, limits learning potential, and narrows future opportunities.

This understanding shaped the outreach component of the foundation, which prioritizes early intervention and compassionate care as tools for long-term empowerment.

The core vision of Hope In Sight Foundation is rooted in the belief that clear vision fuels bold dreams. By restoring or improving sight, the foundation gives children the ability to participate fully in school, interact confidently with their peers, and envision a brighter future without limitations imposed by poor eyesight.

The organization remains committed to expanding its reach, strengthening its programs, and advocating for a future where no child’s potential is diminished simply because they cannot see clearly.

The 2026 'MAKE A CHILD SMILE' philanthropy was attended by members of the Foundation’s Board, as well as friends and loved ones of the organisation, who joined volunteers and medical personnel to support the smooth execution of the outreach and engage with children and families throughout the day.

Speaking on the motivation behind the initiative, Founder Adjoa Obuo Duodu said the outreach was deeply personal.

“Growing up with high myopia myself, I understand how untreated vision challenges can affect a child’s confidence, learning, and future. This outreach is about giving children the chance to see clearly and dream boldly,” she said.

Community leaders in Chwinto welcomed the initiative, describing it as timely and impactful. They noted that access to preventive eye care and early health interventions is critical to improving children’s academic performance, confidence, and overall wellbeing, particularly in underserved communities.

The outreach was successfully delivered with the support of corporate and individual partners. Fidelity Bank Ghana partnered the programme as part of the bank's corporate social responsibility while Peeva Beverages provided refreshments.

Individual donors and volunteers also came through to help make the outreach possible.
