South African polo side Cintron were crowned champions of this year’s Inanda African polo cup after beating UBS polo team also from south Africa 6-2 on Sunday.
The 2012 knockout event saw representative players from Nigeria and host polo Africa (a South African development side) and South Africa.
The three day event provided an exhilarating polo experience in fashion, magical moments and dynamic horsemanship.
According to Madam Phelisa Mangcu who is the acting Chief Executive Officer of Joburg Tourism, headline sponsor of the 2012 Inanda Polo cup, this year’s event has seen a lot of improvements and its hoping to build on it for the game to gain the needed popularity beyond south Africa.
This is something we have been doing gradually and we do realize that the sport is not known in Africa but we are going to put so much effort way before the event starts and make sure that it is marketed throughout Africa”. She told JOY Sports
Nigerian polo side Lintrale which was the only team outside South Africa to have participated in this year’s event finished fourth after losing 6-5 to Veuve Clicquot of South Africa.
The ten teams that participated in the Inanda Africa Cup 2012 are; Lintrale, Veuve Clicquot, Decline and Fall, Polo Africa, UBS, Montechristo, Inanda Renegades, Green Machines, Goly Polo and Cintron.
