National Youth Organizer of the ruling National Democratic Congress (NDC) Ludwig Hlordze has lambasted civil society organizations, accusing them of extorting monies from international organizations under the guise of promoting peace in the country.
He said many civil society organisations were exploiting the rancorous political contests between the political parties and the often heated political atmosphere, to raise monies from international organizations with the promise of fostering a peaceful atmosphere in the country.
Ludwig Hlordze, who doubles as the Chairman of the Inter-Party Youth Committee, made this revelation in an interview on Election Headquarters on Joy FM Thursday.
One major concern, he noted, to all political parties is that, civil society organizations were exploiting “the situation and using us to raise all kinds of money from international organizations in the name of organizing peace concerts [and] programmes.”
After polities to rake in money, the organisations, Ludwik claimed consistently failed to involve political parties in any planned activities, insisting that such organisations "shouldn’t use this opportunity to be exploiting international organizations, collecting all kinds of monies in the name of organizing peaceful programmes.”
The NDC Youth Organizer who was commenting on the need for political parties to ensure peaceful elections in December, observed that the onus lay on political parties in particular and Ghanaians in general, to ensure incident free polls.
The youth wings of the country’s political parties have formed the Inter-Party Youth Committee to help promote peace amongst parties before, during and after the 2012 elections.
The committee was addressed by the New Patriotic Party (NPP)’s flagbearer, Nana Akufo-Addo, Tuesday, who assured that he will not exploit the youth for violent purposes.
Ludwig observed that apart from the political parties, the Electoral Commission, “must be fair to all” in the elections, “we are asking the security services to be fair in everything they do … the media must stop the sensationalism in our system because sometimes they come up with all kinds of sensational stories that end up destroying the peace of this country.”
National Youth Organizer of the New Patriotic Party (NPP), Anthony Karbo observed that the “responsibility of a peaceful election doesn’t rest in the bosom of the opposition, it is a collective responsibility and no single person can be responsible for a peaceful Ghana.”
The responsibility, he added, also rests with the media, security agencies and those who are conducting the elections.
